Just Looking

GTIWhat are you looking for in a new car?  I honestly never thought about that question for years, because I was happy driving my 1999 Jeep Cherokee Classic.  I don’t know what it was about that car that made it so special.  It might have had something to do with the fact that 1999 was the year I graduated from the College of Charleston.  If you have never been to Charleston, South Carolina, you are missing one of the most beautiful places on Earth.  The history and romance that fills that city are nothing short of magical.  I hate to say it, but sometimes I miss that heat that knocks you down in the summertime.  Those afternoon showers that came up every afternoon around 3pm, sure cooled off the day.

Or maybe, it was the fact that the Jeep was the first vehicle that my wife and I owned together.  We took that thing to Missouri for school, and then back to SC to live and work in Florence.  That long ride back from St. Louis was crazy.  I remember it like it was yesterday.  From pulling off on the wrong exit and being police escorted back to the highway, to the Radiohead and Sufjan Stevens albums that we listened to over and over again.  It was the only vehicle that we had when we first started out.  Life was so hard, yet so simple at the same time.  We always had to schedule everything, and if the car was in the shop, we didn’t go anywhere.

Here it is, almost 8 years later, and we had 265,000 miles on her.  The Jeep was a trooper and we had gotten everything we could out of her.  I had the need for a new vehicle.  Something that I hadn’t had in a long time.  What was I going to get?  When I started looking at the Volkswagen dealership, I didn’t know what I needed because I wanted all of them.  There is something about driving a VW that is awesome.  It’s like Volkswagen designs the car from the driver’s seat out.  When other makers, it seems, design their cars from the outside in.

What I Found

I knew that power was important to me.  I had been driving a 4 wheel drive car for the longest time, and I was ready for something with some pickup to it. But, I also needed something with space to it.  With a family of 4, we needed something that we could all fit in comfortably on trips.  I also have quite a bit of photography equipment that I have to haul around.  So, having something that is versatile really helped me narrow it down to the Tiguan that I chose.

So, what are you looking for in a new car?  I know that you don’t necessarily like hearing that when you walk on a car lot because you think that car salesmen are only here to get your money.  But, for me, it is something more.  I want to help you find the car that fits your needs, not your wants. Because, if you are anything like me, you want them all. Come to Midlands Volkswagen and let me help you find the car that fits your needs.
